F.A.Q.

In order to improve we all need to practise especially when exams, competitions or shows are approaching. We ask that you practise at home each week to achieve and maintain flexibility. It is essential that classes are attended consistently. If students frequently miss classes, it is difficult for them to catch up on what they may have missed and it is also difficult for other students to work around those who are missing.

In many studios the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration. By trying to do two jobs at once, the class may suffer as the teacher has to use class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like costumes or schedules, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. Our studio has office staff on hand during regular class times.

We have communication pockets in the hallway that are used for information. Newsletters are printed once per term to keep everyone up to date. Please check the website for the latest newsletters and event information. Also keep an eye on the noticeboard in the waiting room as information is relayed through this board. Other items of interest are also put on the board relating to outside workshops, summer school, and specials on dance wear.

Dance shoes are recommended but not required. However, in order to be able to move comfortably across the floor, we advise that you do not wear rubber-soled shoes. Sharp heels or shoes with metal bottoms are strongly discouraged because they can damage the floor or cause injury. You can wear anything you want for your first lesson. Afterwards, we will recommend something based on the style and direction you choose.

It is not compulsory, but is advisable for all students to enter exams. Exams give students and parents an idea of how they are progressing and the standard of their work. It also gives the students a standard to aim towards. Our school has a 100% pass rate for exams with many students receiving high results up to and including teaching qualifications.

Our studio pre-orders costumes and students rent them, keeping the cost low. Our younger students (3-5) purchase their costume and the studio takes care to order costumes that are age appropriate and not too elaborate. If any alterations are necessary parents can take their costumes to Sofia’s Tailoring and Alterations in Ann Arbor and the studio will cover the cost. Our studio also gives each parent 2 free tickets for our year-end show. This way you as a parent will not be faced with any extra work or expenses.

Absolutely! We believe everyone should dance. We accept and welcome people with disabilities. In fact, many of our instructors are certified to teach aspiring wheelchair dancers. We even work with children who have learning disabilities.

You will always find a fully staffed front desk. Our manager, Angie, is at the front desk each night and is happy to help you in any way she can. You may talk to her in person, or call and leave a message and she will get back to you a.s.a.p.
